The Funder's Network for Smart Growth and Livable Communities offers a fellowship known as PLACES (Professionals Learning About Community, Equity & Smart Growth) that expands its participants' understanding of and approach to humanitarian work. Originally founded in 2008, the PLACES fellowship focuses on developing philanthropic leaders with an emphasis on grant funding practices.
The PLACES fellowship consists of a year-long program where participants work with experienced grantmakers and receive exposure to work in the field of philanthropy. They learn how their decisions affect different minorities and how to work on behalf of low-income communities. They also receive opportunities to make personal connections with professionals in the field.
